Preparing a house clearance after bereavement

Identify who is authorised to make arrangements. Agree important decisions about belongings before the work starts, avoiding conflicting instructions.

Separate items to keep, items still requiring a decision and items that may be removed. Set aside documents, photographs and personal memories. Allow time where a decision is difficult.

Ask the landlord or manager about the requirements and date. Clearance, cleaning and repairs are distinct tasks and should be listed separately.
